Annular Fluid Expansion (AFE)

The Annular Fluid Expansion module allows you to simulate pressure development in annulus and production fluids as a result of temperature change throughout operations.

NOTE!
Prior to running an AFE simulation, you have to run temperature simulations.

New AFE Simulation

Once the Annular Fluid Expansion module has been selected (1), a new AFE simulation can be added (2).

Define Conditions

To run an AFE simulation, initial (1) and final (2) condition has to be defined from the dropdown menus. These conditions are either undisturbed temperature profiles or temperature simulations run with the temperature simulator.

Chained Simulation

In a chained simulation a previous AFE simulation can be used as initial condition (1) from the dropdown menu. The initial condition has to be defined in the dropdown menu as well.

Annulus Configuration

In the annulus configuration window you can enter additional information about your simulation. First you have to choose a casing annulus (1). Then you define leak off conditions for the open (2) annulus. If you have a gas cap (3) you can specify the type and volume. Lastly you can limit the pressure buildup with the Max allowable pressure buildup option (4) and set a trapped (initial) pressure (5).
